Why I do this
During my eight years at PwC in Geneva, I worked with large Swiss companies on their audits and tax matters. I qualified as a Swiss certified public accountant through EXPERTsuisse, one of the country’s most demanding professional programmes.
Those years gave me a rigorous grounding, but they also revealed a clear divide. At PwC, the focus is on large groups. Swiss SMEs and self-employed professionals, the people who keep the country’s real economy running, were left with traditional accounting firms. Opaque hourly billing, little proactive advice, piles of paperwork and no real-time view of their figures.
In 2018, I took the leap. I left PwC and founded my first LLC: Karpeo, the first digital accounting firm in French-speaking Switzerland. An all-inclusive fixed fee, real-time dashboards and advice built into the service. The idea was simple: give Swiss entrepreneurs the same visibility and support that large companies have always enjoyed.
But to set up Karpeo, I had to go through the company formation process myself. That is when I experienced first-hand what my future clients would describe to me for years: an expensive, unclear process that leaves entrepreneurs feeling they are paying for a service that adds little value. It is hardly the best start when you are launching a business.
That personal frustration led me to found Entreprendre.ch: a platform where qualified accountants handle company formation at a fair price, with no hidden fees and no jargon. Exactly what I would have liked to find when I started out.
I also launched my YouTube channel, “Entreprendre en Suisse avec Romain”. My clients kept asking the same questions over the phone: about salaries, VAT, cross-border worker status and taxation for business owners. Why not answer them publicly, once, so that every French-speaking entrepreneur in Switzerland could benefit, whether they were a client or not?
Today, my work is about helping entrepreneurs get started in Switzerland and get it right. Together with my team, I personally review every application we handle.
