Within the same municipality
Only the address at which the company can be reached changes. The municipality stated in the articles and the commercial register remains the same.
Example: moving from Eaux-Vives to Pâquis in the city of Geneva. The neighbourhood and possibly the postcode change, but the registered office remains Geneva.
Moving to a different municipality
The registered-office municipality in the articles of an LLC or SA / AG must change. This requires a notarised deed.
Example: moving from Geneva to Carouge. Both are in the canton of Geneva, but they are different municipalities.

In five steps.
Gather the information, prepare the application and send it to the competent register.
The register specifies which documents, signatures and filing methods it accepts.
Confirm the full address
Record the street, number, postcode and locality. Check that the company can be reached there. If a third party provides the domicile, prepare the c/o wording with their exact name.
Prepare the application
State the exact company name and UID number (CHE-XXX.XXX.XXX). Specify the new address and that the registered-office municipality remains unchanged. Date the application.
Record the decision internally as appropriate for your company. Minutes are not always required for a simple address change; check the register’s document list.
Check signatures and enclosures
Follow the applicable signing rules. The usual case is one board member or LLC managing director with individual signing authority, or two with joint authority by two. Check the cantonal instructions.
For a c/o address, enclose the domicile provider’s acceptance declaration and other required evidence. A new signature may need certification.
Submit to the cantonal office
The competent register remains the same for a move within the municipality. Submit documents in the required form, including original signatures for a paper filing.
You may also consult EasyGov.swiss. Follow its instructions for your case; some documents or signatures may still need separate submission.
Check the registered address
Once processed, check the updated extract, including any c/o wording. Keep the application, enclosures and confirmation.
Processing time depends on the office and completeness of the filing. Do not assume registration is guaranteed within a few days.

SECO lists CHF 30 for changing the domicile address or an additional address. This is not an all-inclusive package: signature certification, extracts or other simultaneous changes may cost extra.

Check updates with your bank, insurers, social security office, pension fund, tax and VAT authorities. Inform customers, suppliers and partners.
Update documents and mail
Update invoices, quotations, contracts, website contact details, your Google business profile and relevant directories. Arrange mailbox identification and mail forwarding.
A commercial register update does not guarantee that all organisations have received the new address.

Before you get started.
Do I need a notary to change an address within the same municipality?
Usually not, provided the articles do not need to change. If a clause contains the full address and must be amended, address that amendment separately. Signature certification is a different formality.
Does the same postcode mean the municipality is unchanged?
No. Compare the political municipality of the new address with the registered office shown in the extract. A postal locality, neighbourhood or postcode is not the legal test.
What if the company is registered at someone else’s address?
Include c/o and the domicile provider’s exact identity. Enclose their acceptance declaration as required by the register. Make sure the company can receive mail there.
Can I use EasyGov?
EasyGov offers a business relocation process. Follow the instructions for identification, signatures and submission in your case. Starting online does not guarantee a paperless procedure.
Will everyone receive the new address automatically?
Do not assume so. Check separately with social insurance, VAT and tax authorities, insurers and your bank. Inform customers and suppliers and update your documents.
What if I move to another municipality in the same canton?
For an LLC or SA / AG, this is a registered-office transfer even if the canton is unchanged. See our registered-office transfer page.
Does this apply to a sole proprietorship?
A registered sole proprietor must also report a new address. However, the procedure and signatures differ. Follow the canton’s instructions for sole proprietorships; the rules on LLC and SA / AG articles do not apply.
